Trout lures

TROUT LURES

 Spinners

Spinners can be a great choice for catching trout in lakes or rivers. The blade spins around the shaft while you are retrieving, the flash & vibrations caused by this can trigger an aggressive bite from a feeding or non feeding fish. I recommend a Panther Martin or Rooster tail.

Spoons

Spoons are also another great option when fishing for trout in a lake or river, spoons often intimidate a swimming or injured fish, trout see it limping by & this triggers their predator instincts causing an aggressive take.

MY FAVOURITE TROUT DRYS

TROUT DRY FLIES

Parachute Adams

This class dry fly pattern has been used for many of years by fly fisherman all around the world & I highly recommend keeping a couple in your box. Why... because it catches trout no matter the hatch! Mayfly hatch? throw an Adams, caddis hatch? Throw an Adams! I’ve caught countless fish on these awesome flies.

Elk Hair Caddis

Oh boy! The Elk Hair caddis, one of the oldest & most iconic dry’s, what a great fly! By far one of the best caddis patterns you could throw, you can actually fish this fly dry above the water or wet just below the surface. Its large profile provides a big looking easy meal for a trout. Now make sure you have a couple of these in a few different sizes in that box!

Blue Wing Olive (BWO)

Well, if you can’t tell by now, I like my classic fly patterns. The Blue Wing Olive or also know as BWO is another legendary fly, made to imitate the Baetis mayfly which has olive body & grey wings. There are so many species of mayflies with olive body’s so having a few of these in the box is a must. No matter where you’re fishing, I can almost guarantee there is a hatch of olive mayflies at some point throughout the year.

Mosquito Fly

The good ol’ mosquito.. love them or hate them they produce great fish! Here in BC, we basically bathe in bug spray because it can get so bad! Definitely no abundance of mosquitos flying around the rivers here, so why not fish them? Its basically my go-to when I am struggling to match the hatch. Go throw a few of these bad boys in the box.
